Somewhat correct; what I’m projecting, first and foremost, is that I am in control of myself, and that I am, in some sense, already “inside” her, and that she is comfortable and safe with the surrender to me.

But you have to understand that, as a teacher, I have to lead students progressively from where they are to where they can be. So I segment things in progressive steps.

I have to agree and disagree; while the heart of it is the vibe and the “subconscious link”, the bones and muscle are the commands and suggestions.

Think of this metaphor: the vibe, the unconscious link, etc are like the conductive medium. The patterns, commands, suggestions are the electricity that you send across. Each supports the other, acting in concert.

No competent hypnotist would deny the power and the necessity of the operator’s state and subconscious connection with the subject. But no competent hypnotist would then deny himself the power of using his language in a structured way to potentiate what he’d created with that state.

Do you seriously think Erickson, for example, ONLY relied on his state and his connection with the patient? Or did he use that as a gateway to offer very structured sugggestions, commands, stories and metaphors?

So both theoretically, and demonstrably, your interpretation is only partially correct.

More to the point, experiment for yourself. Try it with and without the commands and suggestions and stories and see what happens with the ladies. Do enough trial runs to let sufficient data percolate up for you to fairly judge.

Her response was banter, not defense. And more to the point, the only way to see what lines do is to use them yourself and observe experimentally, rather than theoretically. So go see what happens.

It entirely depends on what you surround it with, your attitude when you say it, and what follows it in the sequence.
